The Center for Food Safety (CFS) is a non-profit public interest group in the USA with a mandate to protect consumers and other interest groups from harmful food technologies , using legal actions, submission of policy comments, public education and by providing technical assistance to other organizations. CFS is a strong opponent of GM foods , and is currently in a battle against the USDA and Monsanto Corporation, to prevent Roundup Ready alfalfa from becoming approved for nationwide commercial planting. This battle began in 2005 when APHIS (USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service) announced it would deregulate the GM alfalfa products
